LIVIN' ON A PRAYER BY BON JOVI 500 SUBSCRIBERS SPECIAL: Trombone Collaboration Cover Version

For those of you who are subscribed to my YouTube channel SlideShow, you know that I have been uploading videos a lot more consistently lately. When I got home from tour last September, I decided I was really going to go all in on this YouTube channel and work really hard to make it grow. Since then, it has been my goal to upload once a week. Once I started uploading more frequently, the channel really started to take off!

On January 27, 2020 we hit 500 subscribers! This is halfway to our goal for the year of 1,000 subs. I had been wanting to make a video of Livin' on a Prayer by Bon Jovi for a long time, as it is one of everyone's favorite karaoke songs. Playing up the line "Whoa, we're halfway there" seemed perfect for the 500 Subscribers Special video. I didn’t want to just do a video for this song... I wanted to make it a special one. I have been talking to other people for a while now about how I can include the SlideShow audience more, and create more interactions and engagement with the people watching the videos. It seemed natural to make Livin’ on a Prayer the video to do just that by accepting video submissions from our subscribers. This was really fun and I am so happy so many people participated in the video (we had 11 total)! I got to play with some old friends and made some new ones in the process. The SlideShow channel, and music in general, is all about connecting with people, and this project allowed us to do just that.

The video for Livin’ on a Prayer by Bon Jovi is on track to be one of our most successful videos yet. I definitely want to make more collaboration videos like this in the future! I want to thank each and every one of our collaborators for their contribution to the video: Paul Blakely, Kaylie Brooke, Adam Byars, Tao Guthrie, Guillermo Montecelo, Ben Owens, Guillermo Ramirez, Emily Rozanski, Peter Tijerina and Josiah Williams.

I hope you have as much fun watching it as I did making it! And please, if you haven’t yet, subscribe to the channel! https://www.youtube.com/slideshowtrombone

See you soon!

2/9/19 Live with ゼロゼロイチハチ (Zero Zero Ichi Hachi)

My next live performance is on Saturday 2/9 with ゼロゼロイチハチ (Zero Zero Ichi Hachi) at Green Apple in Koenji. Zero Zero Ichi Hachi is a trombone ensemble created by Japanese YouTuber Aki-C. At this concert we will be playing many of Aki-C’s trombone arrangements made famous by his YouTube videos. The members will perform in many different combinations from duets, all the way up to a full trombone octet! I am very excited to play in this concert because it’s been a long time since I have gotten to play in a trombone ensemble of this size. The more trombones, the better! Something that makes this group very unique is there are 7 female trombonists! This is the first time in my life that I have ever seen 7 female trombonists in the same room, it's very cool.

Also - I LOVE the music! The arrangements are really fun. We are playing music from Studio Ghibli, Disney, and more. The pieces I am most looking forward to performing are 海の見える街 (A Town with an Ocean View) from Kiki’s Delivery Service and 人生のメリーゴーランド (The Merry-go-round of Life) from Howl’s Moving Castle. We will also be performing I Just Can’t Wait to Be King from The Lion King. This is the live version of the video that Aki-C and I made together last year. You can check out my post about that project here: I Just Can’t Wait to Be King

Below is the event flyer and a video of one of the songs we will be performing. Please send me a message if you would like you come!

Merry Christmas from The Bone Zone

Here is the latest Bone Zone video, just in time for Christmas. I wrote this arrangement of What's This? from The Nightmare Before Christmas for six trombones and of course, jingle bells. The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my favorite movies. Mostly because my favorite holiday is Halloween, so I really like the idea of a Halloween Christmas movie, haha. Also, I LOVE the soundtrack! Every time I watch the movie I can't help but sing along. Danny Elfman nails it every time.

This was a really fun project to work on, especially because we were experimenting more with acting and adding other elements to our videos. One of the most unique things about The Bone Zone is that we record from all over the world! As you will see in this video, we recorded from Yokosuka, Japan, Boston, MA, Chicago, IL, Dallas, TX, Lancaster, PA, Miami, FL, and Washington, D.C.

Please enjoy What's This and subscribe to our YouTube Channel for more videos. We have a lot of exciting things planned for next year! Merry Christmas!

Game of BONES

Here is the second video from THE BONE ZONE, Game of Thrones! This is one of my favorite TV shows and I love the original score to the show. I arranged the main theme for 6 trombones and timpani. We had so much fun recording this video because all of us are huge fans of the show. Let's just say you could always hear this theme being played somewhere by someone around the theatre. It's just so catchy and fun to play!

THE BONE ZONE now has its very own YouTube channel, so make sure to subscribe. Also, you can re-watch our first video, DuckTales. We have more new material coming soon =)
