Merry Christmas from The Bone Zone

Here is the latest Bone Zone video, just in time for Christmas. I wrote this arrangement of What's This? from The Nightmare Before Christmas for six trombones and of course, jingle bells. The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my favorite movies. Mostly because my favorite holiday is Halloween, so I really like the idea of a Halloween Christmas movie, haha. Also, I LOVE the soundtrack! Every time I watch the movie I can't help but sing along. Danny Elfman nails it every time.

This was a really fun project to work on, especially because we were experimenting more with acting and adding other elements to our videos. One of the most unique things about The Bone Zone is that we record from all over the world! As you will see in this video, we recorded from Yokosuka, Japan, Boston, MA, Chicago, IL, Dallas, TX, Lancaster, PA, Miami, FL, and Washington, D.C.

Please enjoy What's This and subscribe to our YouTube Channel for more videos. We have a lot of exciting things planned for next year! Merry Christmas!

CHRISTMAS TIME IS HERE!

Here is the latest video from THE BONE ZONE, Christmas Time is Here. We actually played this arrangement for the first time this past summer. I know, why were we reading through Christmas music in June?! We liked the arrangement so much that we decided to save it for Christmas and here it is! Please subscribe to our YouTube channel for more videos. We have a lot of exciting things planned for next year!

The best part about THE BONE ZONE is that we record from around the world! This video was recorded in Yokosuka, Japan (Lisa and Patrick), Washington D.C. (Jeff) and Miami, FL (Guillermo).

A Song For Japan

Here is the latest video from THE BONE ZONE, A Song For Japan. The trombonists from Blast! The Music of Disney recorded this piece in Okinawa, our last stop on our 47 prefecture tour of Japan. Playing in the video are all five trombonists from Blast!: Ben Owens, Guillermo Ramirez, Josiah Williams, Tao Guthrie and myself. As well as Jeff Harrigan, this tours' conductor, Lacy Smith, who played euphonium in the show and Josh Davis, who played tuba in the show. We were all looking to do something special for our fans. So we recorded this piece we all loved, collected all the photos we had taken from this tour, and made a music video dedicated to our fans. The photos in the video are us with our fans, our friends, special people we met along the way, doing clinics at Japanese schools and amazing places we visited.

I have always loved the piece A Song For Japan since the first time I heard it played. When I was in college, I heard my trombone teacher, Douglas Yeo, play it on a recital and it almost brought tears to my eyes. He captured the essence of the piece perfectly as the melody is just as beautiful as it is haunting. A Song For Japan was originally written for a charity collaboration project following the 2011 earthquake in Fukushima, Japan. Although the piece was originally written for such a tragedy, we knew it was the perfect piece to dedicate to our Japanese fans. Game of BONES

Here is the second video from THE BONE ZONE, Game of Thrones! This is one of my favorite TV shows and I love the original score to the show. I arranged the main theme for 6 trombones and timpani. We had so much fun recording this video because all of us are huge fans of the show. Let's just say you could always hear this theme being played somewhere by someone around the theatre. It's just so catchy and fun to play!

THE BONE ZONE now has its very own YouTube channel, so make sure to subscribe. Also, you can re-watch our first video, DuckTales. We have more new material coming soon =)

47 Prefecture Tour

Last week I returned to Yokosuka from a tour with the show Blast The Music of Disney. This tour was special as it traveled to all 47 prefectures of Japan! Even though a tour of this magnitude was very tiring, it was an amazing experience to see the entire country of Japan. Also, the opportunity to perform for that many people all over the country was very humbling.

This was actually my third time to tour all 47 prefectures, but each time I see and learn new things. I love to visit cities for a second and third time, because each time you visit you get to know the city a little bit more. Although pictures never do complete justice, here are some pics from some of my favorite places I visited this summer.
